Abstract

Introduction: Digital health literacy is an essential skill that enables people to access, understand, and use health information through digital means. This skill facilitates the adoption of healthy habits, improves communication with healthcare professionals, and optimizes self-care.

Objective: To examine the landscape of digital health literacy and contributions to promoting digital health programs by reviewing the scientific literature.

Methods: A scientific review was carried out using the PRISMA 2020 declaration and using the ICrESAI-IMeCI and AMSTAR-2 criteria, the search was in the PubMed, Scielo, Elsevier, Dialnet, BVS, ResearchGate, Redalyc and Repositories databases, the keywords; health literacy, digital health, health promotion and self-care, the period from 2019 to 2024, Spanish language, Open Access and related to the health field, the analysis of the information with the ATLAS.ti version 9 software.

Results: It was found that digital health literacy is crucial for access to information, which is not possible without the proper implementation of digital strategies that lead to the empowerment of individuals.

Conclusions: Improving digital literacy is crucial as it has the potential to empower patients, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health.
